Tabriz Rugs

Tabriz rugs are a large family of Persian, Caucasian, and old Turkish rugs that have been woven in the Iranian city of Tabriz for hundreds of years.

Tabriz Persian rug weaving has evolved and the style has been imitated by many loom weavers elsewhere. These hand-knotted Tabriz rugs are characterized by fine wool piles with silk highlights, delicate patterns often including animal and bird motifs, and cream ground colors (often with an all-over multiple drops pattern).

The Tabriz design of rugs often showcases a red field color, alternate rows of light and dark knots often framing sections of the patterning or providing a design in themselves.

Tabriz rugs are traditionally classified as luxury products, and they are woven in the traditional Persian technique using hand-looms. There are different schools of artisans who weave Tabriz rugs, but the main school is the one that uses the simple structure of an open loom which allows each weaver to express his or her individuality.

Most of these weavers specialize in one or two colors, although you can find some color-full Tabriz rugs on the market. On the other hand, you have the Karastan Tabriz rugs, which have been color-washed. For a more authentic look and better quality, consider Tabriz Rugs.
