Bidjar rugs are the result of generations of handmade expertise. Native to the town of Bidjar, only a few kilometers from the Iran border with Turkey, these bidjar Persian rugs have been woven by local women for over 100 years. The colorful patterns and intricate designs add an authentically rustic touch to any room.
Traditional designs of antique bidjar rugs include pictorial landscapes with brown or golden backgrounds with dark blues and reds used for borders or accents. Yet some select rugs feature floral patterns with autumn colors such as browns, yellows, and oranges used for accenting borders or filling in large areas of the rug.
The most striking Bidjar rugs are those made from wool. These are abundant in the region but are also found elsewhere in the Middle East and North Africa and some even come from Turkey. The wool is hand-spun by local sheep farmers into yarn which is then woven into the carpet.
Many Bidjar rugs have been woven with a distinct style that is known as "The Turkish knot”, which creates a tightly woven fabric that will last and endure any external factor for years. Here at Magic Rugs, we have a curated collection of Bidjar rugs you can take home and embellish your spaces with. When browsing through our catalog, you might very probably find some antique bidjar rugs for sale.
