About the collection
Isfahan Persian rugs are woven in the city of Isfahan. They can be found in museums and homes throughout the world, especially in countries with a cultural relationship to the region. The art of weaving Isfahan oriental rugs and many others was developed in Mesopotamia and was brought to the region around 1040 AD.
Originally made in Isfahan, the region, it is now shipped worldwide. These rugs are widely used as wall hangings and floor coverings; they are also used as carpets on prayer mats during Muslim ceremonies and gatherings.
The city's weavers began producing ornaments for mosques, palaces, and nomadic tents which eventually became rugs, such as the antique Isfahan rug. Because of this early connection between textiles and Islam -particularly with rugs-, many religious motifs were incorporated into Islamic styles of architecture as well as Persian styles.
Isfahan rug designs are one of the most popular Persian carpet designs. It is characterized by large, regular patterns usually in symmetrical balance. The center has a medallion design that may include small border patterns. However, beautiful Isfahan pictorial rugs, with very descriptive hunting scenes, can also be found.
Here at Magic Rugs, you can find the best collection of Isfahan rugs for your living spaces.
