Gabbeh rug

A Gabbeh rug is a woven tribal rug that is typically made by hand in the Iranian region of Qashqai. These rugs are characterized by being very simple, and playful, they have a very modern design and often use geometric human, animal, and plant patterns and designs.

Gabbeh translates to “unfinished”, and these rugs were normally made for the rug maker’s own personal use. They were often designed and used as sleeping rugs. Normally the colors of Persian Gabbeh rugs were very varied and the rug maker often gave free rein to his or her imagination while making them. The most used colors were ivory, beige, and different shades of brown.
