In the rug industry, there are many different types of rugs, but a Bakhtiari Persian rug will always be distinguished by its intricate weaving. It has a wool weft, and it is based on a cotton warp or foundation. This results in unique rugs, depending on the qualities of the wool that the manufacturers possess.
Antique Bakhtiari rugs are made by the Bakhtiari tribe, located in Iran. They often depict nature and animals divided into regular geometric shapes. A recurrent pattern is that of a chess board with pictorial representations of nature in each cell.
Antique Bakhtiari Persian rug rugs are often dyed in shades of white, reds, browns, greens, and yellows. The color blue does not seem to appear in these rugs The color does not fade over time, and it does not lose its appeal.
The making of these rugs is quite a difficult process. It takes the weaver about three weeks to produce one rug and therefore, the Bakhtiari rug value can be quite elevated. The Bakhtiari tribes would usually make them for the bazaar trade, so that is how the weavers would be able to make money by selling their wares to other merchants.
